BSA offers a selection of short courses ranging from two to eight weeks, on a diverse range of visual arts subjects and mediums, with experienced teachers who are nationally-recognised practicing artists. 

The BSA Year of Painting is designed for students to develop their practice using a variety of approaches. James Guppy will lead Acrylic Painting in Term 1 and the remaining courses will be confirmed in upcoming months.

Our BSA Year of Ceramics will held on Mondays, 10am – 3pm, with Kat Shapiro Wood running an eight-week course, the remaining courses will be confirmed in the upcoming months.

These series of short courses and workshops are designed to offer a more immersive, continuous course to develop and improve your painting or sculpting skills.

All classes are held at 112 Dalley Street, MULLUMBIMBY unless otherwise noted.

CALEB REID | ABSTRACT PAINTING

In this six-week course, students will explore different approaches to abstraction in painting through a range of techniques and processes. Beginning with the abstraction of real objects using shape, tone, texture and colour, students will gradually move towards pure abstraction. Along the way, they will explore how painting can express emotion, ideas and freedom beyond recognisable imagery. MORE INFO

ISSY PARKER | FOUNDATIONS IN CERAMICS

This six-week handbuilding course with Issy introduces the fundamentals of working with clay. Students will explore pinch, coil and slab techniques, joining, carving and mark-making. MICHAEL CUSACK | PAINTING USING MIXED MEDIA

With an emphasis on experimentation, Michael will guide students to explore and experiment with both acrylic and oil painting while being introduced to a range of contemporary painting approaches. MORE INFO

EXPLORING THE FIGURE: EXPRESSIVE PAINTING WITH A LIFE MODEL | CALEB REID

During this six-week evening course, students will explore expressive figure painting using shape, tone, texture and colour. Through studies from the life model, student will experiment with stylisation and abstraction, moving beyond realistic representation to capture gesture, emotion and atmosphere. With Caleb’s guidance, students will develop their own artistic style and visual language in a supportive environment that encourages creativity, experimentation and confidence. MORE INFO

INDIVIDUAL ONLINE OR IN-PERSON MENTORING

In a series of four weekly one-hour sessions either via Zoom or in-person, students will be guided through a discussion on their art practice and their approach to art making. Mentoring will be designed to suit individual needs and discussions may focus on topics such as motivation, idea generation, techniques, approach to materials, research, writing artist statements and professional practice.
