James Guppy I Portraiture
The face is one of the most challenging subjects in art. As babies, we are genetically hardwired to recognise faces even before we have gained experience in the nuances of shape, proportion, and expression.
Rendering the face for portraiture requires observational skills unmatched in any other area of the visual arts. Moreover, the understanding and capturing of expression is another complex aspect to master.
During this eight-week course, by working from a model as well as learning how to work from photographs, students will gain a sound basis in the principles and practice of executing a portrait.
