Glenn Barkley I Impression Sessions - Handbuilding and Stampmaking

This two-day workshop examines the relationship between found objects and ceramic form. On day one, students will explore the technical and conceptual framework of sprig and press moulding. By pressing textured objects—such as seeds, shells, fabric and jewellery—into clay, students create negative impressions that are subsequently cast  to dry overnight

The second day focuses on the construction and completion of the primary vessel(s) using foundational slab and coil handbuilding techniques. Once the vessels are formed, students extract fresh clay casts from their moulds and apply these decorative sprigs to the leather-hard surfaces of their sculptures. This methodology allows for an exploration of relief ornamentation, surface topography and collage within a contemporary ceramic practice.

Throughout the weekend, technical instruction is paired with open dialogue and lots of lols, gossip and profound wisdom fostering a collaborative and engaging studio environment..

Suitable for all levels.

This workshop is in collaboration with Art Byron

Classes will be held at 112 Dalley Street, Mullumbimby
